不同基础货币下各国巨无霸指数评估

Evaluation of Big Mac Index in Different Base Currencies

英国的《经济学人》自1986年起提出巨无霸指数,这一不太正式的指数曾多次被用于研究和比较不同国家、不同地区的货币之间的购买力,发挥着至关重要的作用;然而,由于一篮子商品的单一性,其作用也总是饱受争议。为此,本文介绍巨无霸指数及其在购买力平价理论下的测算,并引入最新公布的巨无霸指数,着重比较在5种基础货币(美元、欧元、英镑、日元、人民币)衡量下,各国巨无霸指数的高估(或低估)情形。

The Big Mac index has been put forward by The Economist since 1986. This informal index has been used for many times to study and compare the purchasing power of currencies in different countries and regions. However, due to the unity of a basket of commodities, its role is always controversial. This paper introduces the Big Mac Index and its calculation under Purchasing Power Parity theory (PPP). The latest Big Mac Index was introduced focusing on the comparison of the overvalued (or undervalued) situation of the Big Mac Index in different countries under the measurement of five basic currencies (US Dollar, Euro, British Pound, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan).
